The 2015 balcony collapse in Berkley, CA resulted in the tragic deaths of six young people and injury to another seven. It also led to needed improvements to the CA Building Code. To reduce the likelihood of future collapses, California signed into law Senate Bill (SB) 721 and SB 326. These laws require a completed first inspection of buildings’ exterior elevated elements (EEEs) before January 1, 2025.
